This small park is located near the Cotopaxi National Park, along the Panamericana Sur, the main road from Quito to Latacunga. You can also go there by train from the station of Chimbacalle in the south of Quito. The train journey takes 2.5 hours to El Boliche station.
More than half of the park consists of landscaped pine and cypress forests. The original vegetation has made way for these forests that are commercially exploited.
There are a number of hiking trails in the park: you can visit the paramo areas and you can spend the night in the area.
El Boliche is often visited by the Quiteños on weekends as a day trip. Much more interesting, however, is a visit to the nearby and much larger Cotopaxi National Park.
