Española is the most southern island of the archipelago. It is the oldest island, about 3.3 million years old. Española Island is a popular island for cruises. It is approximately an 11-hour boat ride from Santa Cruz.
There are two visitor sites:

Gardner Bay
is a beach of about 1 km long, one of the most beautiful beaches of Galapagos. It is located on the north coast of Española. Several colonies of sea lions reside here and the turquoise water contrasts beautifully with the white beach. Large marine iguanas and crabs lie on the rocks.
Along the beach are mocking birds, who are after your backpack.
At 50 meters from the beach is a rock around which you can snorkel. But even more beautiful is the slightly further away Tortuga Rock where you can swim between schools of parrot fish.

Punta Suarez
Punta Suarez is located on the west side of the island. The route (two hours) here passes over rocky lava from one side of the island to the other. Here is an impressive blowhole (20 meters high) in the rocks, where the seawater is sprayed up with great force by the waves. This is one of the most beautiful spots on Galapagos: you will find a fantastic animal richness with colonies of blue-footed boobies, marine iguanas and albatrosses. There are so many blue-footed nests that you should take care not to step on them.

The island is much appreciated by bird watchers. The entire population of Galapagosalbatrosses (some 12,000 birds) nests on Española from mid-March to the end of December. They have a wing span of 2.40 meters.

On Española you will also find breeding colonies of mask and blue-footed boobies. You will also find the swallow-tailed gull, the lava heron, the tropic bird, the galapagos pigeon, the galapagos hawk, the american oystercatcher, …
